Don't take political sides, DP Ruto tells police, judiciary

THE STANDARD
Deputy President William Ruto has cautioned the National Police Service and the Judiciary against being partisan while discharging their duties.
Speaking in Bahati, Nakuru County, on Thursday during the burial of Arthur Kimani, son of area MP Kimani Ngunjiri, Ruto (

“The biggest threat to our country is a partisan police service or a police service that listens to political interests,” he said.
The DP said the government had provided the Police Service with the necessary equipment and personnel to discharge their duties independently and hence must follow the law in doing so.

MPs accused of orchestrating chaos in the recently concluded by-elections have accused certain quarters of using the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to settle political scores.
Some lawmakers who appeared before the commission yesterday claimed that it was under pressure to target certain political leaders.
The leaders threatened to sue NCIC for linking them to the chaos without presenting proof.
MPs Chris Wamalwa (Kiminini), Charles Ong'ondo (Kasipul), Fred Kapondi (Mt Elgon), Benjamin Washiali (Mumias East), Millicent Omanga (Nominated), John Waluke (Sirisia) and Feisal Bader (Msambweni) appeared before NCIC for grilling yesterday.

DP Ruto allies arrested during Kabuchai by-election released

“It is a sad state of affairs that police and the Judiciary are being used to intimidate leaders of some political persuasions,” said Koech.
Barasa denied claims they had weapons at the time of the arrest, saying they were party agents who were just going around checking how the voting was going on.
“We didn’t intimidate or threaten anyone. We were supervising election as agents when we were arrested,” said Barasa.
