President Uhuru Kenyatta has put on hold the push to fire his deputy William Ruto from the ruling Jubilee Party in what confirms reports of a split among top officials.
Jubilee Vice Chairman David Murathe yesterday confirmed the decision, saying it was made to allow for mourning of fallen Tanzanian President John Magufuli.
The close ally of the president, however, affirmed that the National Management Committee (NMC) stands with its decision to have Ruto fired as the deputy party leader.

Removal of Deputy President William Ruto from his position as Jubilee deputy party leader will not affect his constitutional office, President Uhuru Kenyatta's wing of the coalition has said.
Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju said yesterday that Ruto was on his way out of the ruling party because of advancing ideologies of another outfit, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Don't take political sides, DP Ruto tells police, judiciary

THE STANDARD
Deputy President William Ruto has cautioned the National Police Service and the Judiciary against being partisan while discharging their duties.
Speaking in Bahati, Nakuru County, on Thursday during the burial of Arthur Kimani, son of area MP Kimani Ngunjiri, Ruto (
pictured) said the biggest threat to the country’s peace was a partisan police service.
“The biggest threat to our country is a partisan police service or a police service that listens to political interests,” he said.
The DP said the government had provided the Police Service with the necessary equipment and personnel to discharge their duties independently and hence must follow the law in doing so.

Little-known party
Jubilee Party is keen on retaining the two seats after losing the Lake View ward by-election to a little-known party, The New Democrats, last year while United Democratic Alliance (UDA), which is allied to Deputy President William Ruto, is using this contest as a testing ground ahead of the 2022 elections.

It's all systems go as voters in London and Hell’s Gate wards in Nakuru County head to the polls tomorrow to elect their MCAs in the by-elections.
Nakuru Town West Constituency returning officer Gilbert Serem and his Naivasha counterpart David Mbui said they have finalised training of clerks, presiding officers and their deputies who will be involved in the exercise.
“We have also met the candidates and their agents. We are ready for the by-elections,” Serem said.

Police in Nakuru tear-gassed lawmakers allied to Deputy President William Ruto to stop a campaign meeting for a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party candidate for London by-election.
Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika,  Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri, his Nyali counterpart Mohammed Ali, Dagoretti North’s John Kiarie, Cecilly Mbarire (Nominated) were caught in the chaos as the riot police dispersed supporters.
The participants had started gathering at the party office in Nakuru’s Milimani estate.
Antony Nzuki, the UDA candidate, had organised the meeting when the police arrived and barricade the entrance to the office with stones and kept away anyone trying to enter the premises.

Tanga Tanga MP warns DP Ruto against Sonko, says he should be chased away
The entry of former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko into the Deputy President William Ruto’s camp is now threatening to break the seemingly united faction.
According to reports, a section of DP Ruto allies are worried that Sonko, who officially joined Tanga Tanga camp during the thanksgiving ceremony of Msambweni MP Feisal Bader on Thursday, December 31, 2020, cold spoil things for them.
DP Ruto allies are opposed Sonko’s tactics that are seemingly going against their plan to take on President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Sonko has ceased the Tanga Tanga faction meetings to haul assaults and disrespect the Head of State something a section of DP allies are not comfortable with.

Nakuru has inched closer to an international airport, 15 years after the dream was conceptualised.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the Sh2 billion airport at the 81 Tank Battalion Barracks in Lanet was held on Tuesday, attended by politicians and high-ranking military officers.
Deputy Kenya Air Force Commander Brigadier John Omenda assured residents that the military will provide necessary support towards implementation of the project.
“This national project will serve Nakuru County and the entire country at large. I urge all players in this project to cooperate to make it successful for the benefit of the country. We are optimistic it will bring development to the country,” said Brigadier Omenda. The government has allocated Sh400 million for the project in the current financial year, with a promise of additional funding in subsequent years.

Deputy President William Ruto has warned state officers against abusing their offices to create divisions.
The DP, in his remarks, appeared to refer to Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss George Kinoti, who recently revealed plans to revive the 2007/2008 post-election violence cases (PEV).
“It is evident that some state officers are being used politically. Instead of fighting crime, they are now creating fear and tension. They will not win. They will not succeed,” said Ruto.
Ruto was speaking in Bahati, Nakuru County yesterday during the burial of Edith Wanjiku, mother to area MP Kimani Ngunjiri who died on November 24 aged 103.

In the age of hookup culture, millennials are increasingly shying away from marriage buoyed by evolving social trends. According to a study by Gallup, many young adults – especially women - are choosing to marry later in life. Many insist on the need to build careers and be more established, especially financially, before saying ‘I do’.
While this gamble is as fulfilling as being in a loving relationship, the search for an ideal soul mate, perfect life partner or that special someone can, in itself, be challenging to those who may be looking in middle age or beyond. There are, however, beautiful stories of politicians who like fine wine aged into love. Hit by cupid’s arrow, they glided down the aisle soon after assuming office.

Ruto allies locked out of BBI retreat

Deputy President William Ruto's allies have cried foul over their exclusion to a retreat in Naivasha held to deliberate on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report.
Yesterday more than 200 members of the National Assembly and Senate were expected to converge at a Naivasha hotel for the retreat convened by the leadership of the House.
The retreat, seen in some quarters as critical in setting referendum roadmap, has, however, drawn criticism from allies of the DP, who say they were not invited for the meeting.
The Standard has established that in the National Assembly, Majority leader Amos Kimunya (Kipipiri) and his Minority counterpart John Mbadi (Suba South) were tasked with selecting at least 200 members to attend the Naivasha retreat.

Deputy President William Ruto was yesterday conspicuously missing at Kisii State Lodge where President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga officially received the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report.
It was not immediately clear whether Ruto was invited or not to the historical function that has set the stage for constitutional reforms perceived to have a significant political bearing on the 2022 General Election.
Ruto attended the burial of Uasin Gishu MCA Peter Chomba where he read the president’s condolences.
