Increased government intolerance of independent reporting pushed the number of imprisoned journalists worldwide to a record high of 293 this year, more than a quarter of them in China alone, a monitoring group said in an annual survey released.
So far this year in the U.S., police have arrested or detained journalists 56 times, and nearly 40% of those cases were in Los Angeles County.
