Del Taco’s journey toward a new prototype began in 2018, back when the fast casual was determined to create a design that’s aesthetically reflective of its cultural relevancy and culinary innovation. Much work was completed through 2019, but the taco chain hit the pause button once the pandemic arrived. The roughly 600-unit chain reset expectations and made sure the prototype was more adaptive and reactive to COVID impacts.

To combat lines that form at the limited number of Del Taco locations in Central Florida, a new concept for the chain is set to open in Osceola County that promises a more streamlined approach.
Jack in the Box announced Monday that it will acquire Del Taco for $575 million, in a yet another move toward consolidation across the industry. The deal includes $12.51 per share in cash, plus existing debt. Jack estimates the transaction values Del Taco at a multiple of about 7.6x trailing 12 months adjusted EBITDA. Del Taco shareholders will vote around February or March, and if they approve, the transaction will close sometime in Q1.
