STAMFORD — Bobby Valentine is taking the field.
The Stamford native, Rippowam High School graduate, former Major League Baseball player and New York Mets manager, and current college athletics director announced Friday that he is running for mayor.
“Many people … see things and ask why did they happen, and others see things that didn’t happen and ask why not — I’m one of those guys,” Valentine said earlier this week during an interview at his sports academy in Springdale. “I just want to know why not make it the greatest city in America, why not spend your time so that the people that you grew up with and the people that live with you are happy and content as they’re living, and I think that I’ve done a lot and I’ve learned a lot, and maybe my experience could make things better.”

Opinion: Developers need to stop preying on Stamford's poor neighborhoods

“Who decides what a neighborhood needs?” The Advocate’s article (Sunday, May 2) touches an underlying question. Does where you live in Stamford determine how effective your voice is? As a long-time Stamford resident, I care!
Do you live in an area where your modest house’s value has rocketed during the current boom? Or an area like the West Side which the city has allowed to erode and become a primarily rental area with dwindling home-ownership. Unlike more affluent parts of the city, the West Side attracts developers more concerned with making money than with building sustainable, healthy, thriving communities.

STAMFORD — Days after former state Rep. Patricia Billie Miller was sworn in as a state senator, the governor on Friday set April 27 as the date for a special election to determine her replacement in the Connecticut House of Representatives.
Miller was sworn in Monday as the state senator for the 27th District, taking the place of Carlo Leone, who became an adviser to the head of the state Department of Transportation earlier this year. Before winning a special election this month, Miller represented the state House’s 145th District for 12 years.
