Health chief: ICU beds in Sarawak full, public must do its part to cut Covid-19 infections


KUCHING: Sarawak hospitals intensive care unit (ICU) beds for Covid-19 patients are full, says state health director Dr Chin Zin Hing.
Appealing to the public to play its part, he said there was an urgent need to cut Covid-19 transmissions to reduce the number of hospital admissions.
Our ICU beds are full across the state. The doctors are working very hard every day to turn over the ventilators or ICU beds so that the next patient in need can benefit.
At current moment, in all major Sarawak hospitals, we are running 92 ICU beds – all full, he said in a statement on Monday (May 17), adding that each bed was used for 10 days on average. ....

Ports of Auckland has not informed its Auckland Council owner of any potential delay to full automation of its container terminal - despite advising others it will likely miss a time undertaking made by the
port chief executive.
Tony Gibson in March said the controversial automation project, under way for five years at a cost the port and the council refuse to reveal, would go live in June or early July.
While a port spokesman late last week would only say the timing had not changed, the Herald obtained an advisory from the port which said there was a strong likelihood full automation would not start until August some time. ....

After a forced hiatus due to Covid-19 last year, Harcourts Dancing for Hospice is back and the full list of participants has been revealed.
Once again, 20 local amateurs will leap out of their comfort zone and on to the stage as part of the Rotorua Community Hospice s major annual fundraiser.
This year, Rotorua Hospice CEO Jonathon Hagger is walking the talk and participating in the event himself.

In a topsy-turvy world full to the brim with so much division and sadness, the happy ending to the story of the missing East Cape toddler Axle Hamblyn was magnificent.
The 3-year-old boy with long
blonde locks and an infectious smile was missing in a forestry block near Tolaga Bay for 19 hours. Think rugged hills and deep gullies lined with pine trees.
Axle spent an entire night by himself in the dark wearing only a T-shirt, nappy and gumboots. The temperature dropped to 7C. ....
