There were 232 new COVID-19 cases reported in Waterloo region on Thursday. That was the highest number of cases reported in a single day since the start of the pandemic, surpassing 203 reported on Jan. 10, 2021. As well, there were 16 outbreaks in area schools with eight new outbreaks declared.
The region's medical officer of health Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang says she anticipates COVID-19 case rates will go up in the coming weeks as people move indoors for social gatherings, but she says if people continue to follow public health precautions, things shouldn't get out of hand.
