Thursday, May 13, 2021 Share On May 6, leaders of the Pennsylvania National Guard awarded Pitt’s Rory Cooper and Garrett Grindle (ENGR ’04, ’07G) the Pennsylvania Veterans Service Award for their work protecting veterans and their caregivers during the pandemic. In April 2020, the University’s Human Engineering Research Laboratories (HERL) pivoted from their usual technology research and development to producing nasal swabs, face shields and other medical supplies to meet demand during the crisis.
