Seen here as a bakery called Sandall’s, the building was finally used as a handyman’s shop before being demolished in 1970 to make way for a car park. Credit: Gary Stone Pictured above is Church Hill, Loughton, c1904 showing two cedar trees that once stood in the front garden of a large house called ‘Uplands’ that was demolished two years earlier to make way for a new housing development. Uplands Park Avenue (now The Uplands) was laid out on the right, and one of its famous residents was architect, Sir Frank Baines (1877-1933) who lived for a time at Hillside Cottage.
