In 2019, the police services board approved the hiring of four new officers in 2020 and another four in 2021, “something we had not been able to do in a number of years – increase frontline staff.”

A community group set up for mutual aid during the pandemic has continued its support for people in Shoreham, Southwick and Fishersgate over Christmas by delivering hampers to families in need.

The Gateway Hub, based in Gardener Road, Fishersgate, has been supported by Focus Group since the first national lockdown and it was thanks to the IT firm’s vital assistance in December, with meals and donations of family food essentials, that Christmas lunch could be delivered to many families in the community. ....

The District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board (DNSSAB) has approved a 2021 budget increase of 1.97 per cent, or $405,000 to its more than $76-million budget.

“Two drivers are the cause of this,” DNSSAB chairman Mark King said. “The province changed the funding envelopes for child services and we’ll need some extra money to start moving toward self-administration of our emergency medical services.”
King said he would have liked to see a zero per cent increase, but “I don’t see that happening given the fact DNSSAB runs the social services system.” ....
