Date Set For Mental Health Royal Commission Final Report

The final report and recommendations of the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System will be tabled on Tuesday, 2 March, 2021 prior to an historic joint sitting of the Victorian Parliament.
The Parliament will hear directly from Chair, Penny Armytage AM, Professor Patrick McGorry AO and a member of the Victorian community with lived experience of mental illness.
This joint sitting will be held at the Royal Exhibition Building to ensure all members of parliament can attend adhering to CovidSafe rules. It will also enable those witnesses and participants in the commission to attend this significant event.
As the nation continues to deal with the ongoing effects of the coronavirus pandemic, this joint sitting ensures the report is given the dedicated attention it deserves. ....

Belmont Market to open indoor stalls
The City will provide greater opportunities for traders to sell their wares by reopening Belmont Market’s indoor stalls this month.
The indoor section of the market will host 55 stalls from Sunday 28 February, complementing the 210 outdoor stalls that are currently operating at capacity.
This will be the biggest offering at the market since it was first forced to shut due to the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.
Greater Geelong Mayor Stephanie Asher said the COVID-Safe reopening of the Barwon Valley Activity Centre was a welcome addition to the booming weekly market.
“Stalls have been booked out by traders’ weeks in advance, with crowds pouring into the market each Sunday for the huge range of goods on offer,” Mayor Asher said. ....

Geelong Future Economy Precinct nears finish line
The Geelong Future Economy Precinct at Waurn Ponds is now a step closer to completion with the last remaining tender awarded to Keystone Civil to construct the Epworth Place extension.
The final stages of the project will extend Epworth Place to provide new alternative entrance points to the Geelong Future Economy Precinct.
Part of the $382 million Geelong City Deal, the project will support future growth in traffic volumes, provide a safer, more efficient truck route, and support the future growth of advanced manufacturers.
The Geelong Future Economy Precinct houses Deakin University, a medical teaching and research hospital owned by the Australian private health provider Epworth Healthcare, and the agribusiness and equine college Marcus Oldham College. ....

The City will move to reopen facilities and resume services under the new directions, following the welcome decision to lift the ‘circuit breaker’ restrictions on Victoria.
The City will assess the requirements and quickly implement the required COVID-safe measures to its wide range of operations and services.
