Dubai: The winners of the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature’s competitions for schools were recently honoured at several awards ceremonies at the Mohammad Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU). The competitions the Oxford University Press (OUP) Story Writing Competition, The Chevron Readers’ Cup and the Montegrappa Letter Writing Competition allowed young people to show off their skills in story writing and letter composition. Ahlam Bolooki, festival director of the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, said: “Schoolchildren have faced so many uncertainties this year, and I know the return of these competitions has been a welcome boost to morale. The competitions have become an annual highlight in the school calendar.” ....
SHARE Almost a month since resuming in-person classes, parents of pupils at Abu Dhabi private schools spoke of their relief at having children back in classrooms. Parents said their children were excited to be reunited with their teachers and classmates, but also called on schools to assess pupils and offer additional support to those who needed it. Families revealed that pupils were adjusting well to new procedures, but some parents said their children could use a little help in some subjects to close any learning gaps. Pupils in years seven to nine in Abu Dhabi returned to classrooms in February after 11 months of distance learning. ....
SHARE Schools in Abu Dhabi are finding ways to offer extra support for pupils who have fallen behind in their studies after almost a year of online learning. Head teachers in the emirate said that since classrooms have reopened, they wanted to address any difficulties pupils may be having now to avoid significant learning gaps in future. Sharmila Sarfraz, head of the Hindi department at Gems United Indian School, said teachers volunteered to organise extra classes after school or at the weekend for struggling pupils. “Pupils who needed extra support, children who had recently enrolled at the school, or those who needed to repeat a certain part of the syllabus, and high achievers were all able to access extra classes, Ms Sarfraz said. ....
