The Assam government has changed the names of 1281 government and provincialized Madrassas that were converted to general schools. The Gauhati High Court dismissed a writ petition filed by 13 petitioners, stating that the claim that these Madrasas are minority institutions is not acceptable. The Assam government has converted all government-run Madrassas into Upper primary, high school, and higher secondary schools.
