The prime minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines pleaded on Monday for countries to donate generously following a series of devastating volcanic eruptions in the Caribbean nation.
Please help St. Vincent and the Grenadines in its midnight hour of need, Ralph Gonsalves told a United Nations Security Council meeting.
The La Soufriere volcano erupted for the first time in 40 years on April 9. Eruptions have continued to occur daily, with ash clouds covering the country and reaching surrounding islands.
Gonsalves said nearly one fifth of the country s 110,000 people have been evacuated to safer areas. ....

The world s top professional service firms and banks have sought to head off a retention crisis among overworked junior staff by handing out luxury gifts and generous bonuses, following a stellar year for earnings.

US law firms including Davis Polk & Wardwell and Simpson Thacher & Bartlett have in recent weeks announced one-off payouts of between US$12,000 ($17,000) and US$64,000 for associates in recognition of hard work during the pandemic. ISLAMABAD: In a laudable step, the Qatar Embassy has provided precious medical aid to the Thalassemia Center in Islamabad. The centre is catering to helpless poor patients of Thalassemia, mostly children, who hail from the backward areas of the country. The Qatar Embassy was represented in the simple ceremony of handing over the equipment, by Qatar Ambassador Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, and the Third Secretary Nasser Hassan Al-Suwaidi.
They provided medical aid from Qatar Charity to the Islamabad Thalassemia Center in presence of officials from the Pakistani side and the charity. The ambassador visited various departments of the Thalassemia Center and distributed gifts among the children being treated there. ....
