Elliot Schneiderman: Path to unity in America

Elliot Schneiderman | Other Voices
In response to George Rebane’s column published April 3, “Farewell to unity in America”: I agree that an examination of the kind of world we want to achieve in common is a good starting point for addressing the polarization that appears to pervade American politics. But I disagree with his conclusion.
Far from “farewell to unity,” George Rebane actually reveals a path to unity in America! How so?
I am a “neighbor of the left” Democrat. In reading the first half of George’s op-ed, I assumed he was, too, because for the most part I share his stated world view. I believe that most left-leaning Americans do, as well, just as George believes that most right-leaning Americans do. ....

David Moyer: Fire the experts, I say

David Moyer | Other Voices
First fire Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and chief medical adviser to presidents Trump and now Biden.
We inexpert citizens never asked him to fund research to develop more contagious and deadly viruses, otherwise called “gain of function” studies. He played a role in funding these studies in such places as Wuhan and North Carolina.
Because of the risks, the Obama administration stopped the funding in 2014. In 2017, the National Institute of Health, through ECO Alliance, a nonprofit company, and the good offices of Dr. Fauci, restored funding for Dr. Zhengli Shi’s Wuhan Institute of Virology so they could continue these studies. ....

Brandon Butrick: A few more facts

Brandon Butrick
Thanks for adding the fact-check disclaimer to George Rebane’s well-penned but delusional Other Voices column. You missed some other disclaimers:
In 2000, when George Bush won Florida by 537 votes, Al Gore conceded the tight election as soon as the recount was ended. Voter access and registration are an ongoing concern, not a sign that one party is cheating. There was no “graciousness” in 2008 and 2012 from one Donald Trump who made his entrance to politics challenging President Obama’s U.S. citizenship sans evidence, a signature tactic.
There was no congressional challenge to certifying Donald Trump’s election in 2016. Donald Trump’s first impeachment had nothing to do with Russia. Black Lives Matter and Antifa have nothing to do with maintaining election integrity. ....
