The Gainesville Sun Leadership needed On Feb. 26, President Donald Trump stated there were just 15 U.S. coronavirus cases and suggested the epidemic would soon pass. As of Dec. 26, there were 15,370 cases (122 deaths) in Alachua County alone; 1,264,580 Florida cases (21,134 deaths); and over 19 million (332,600 deaths) nationally. Hospitals across the country face alarming staff burnout and ICU shortages with the darkest days of the pandemic ahead of us.
