GEOTHERMAL ENERGY. One of the geothermal power plant facilities of the Energy Development Corp. (EDC) is between the boundary of Kananga in Leyte, and Ormoc City. The resolution, approved by the city council on Jan. 11, 2022, cites Republic Act 9136 or the Electric Power Industry Reform Act of 2001, which declares as a state policy the promotion of the utilization of new, indigenous, and renewable energy sources in power generation, as well as Republic Act 9513 or the Renewable Energy Act of 2008, which encourages the development and utilization of RE to effectively reduce or prevent harmful emissions.
