The remote community first learned of the pandemic when health workers arrived at the isolated village
When employees of the Peruvian Health Department came to vaccinate the Amazon tribe's inhabitants last month, they said they had no idea what COVID-19 meant.
Mariano Quisto, a remote community leader in Peru's dense Amazon rainforest, first learned of the global pandemic in October when health workers arrived by boat at his isolated village with vaccines.
'We didn't know about COVID-19. This is the first we are hearing about it,' said Mariano Quisto (pictured), the leader of Peru's indigenous Urarina community who live deep in the Amazon rainforest.
