And with three seats on the seven-member body up for election this year, the onus will be on voters to decide who best to meet that challenge come 2022. In the 2nd District, Democratic incumbent Andre Horton is running unopposed — both in the May 18 primary and Nov. 2 general election — making his reelection a guarantee. As COVID-19 cases in Erie County continue to increase, so does the number of local schools switching to remote-only learning as a result. Here's a look at which schools are closed for in-person instruction and which are open, based on information available Friday afternoon: • The Erie School District, the region's largest school district with 11,000 students, will continue remote learning for middle and high school students into early 2021. The district's elementary school students are also learning remotely, at least through the end of December.
