AFL-CIO: Out-of-state lobbyists don't know what's best for NH workers

Mix is the President of the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation. While I can’t comment about whether or not he has ever visited the Granite State, I know two things for certain: His organization is based out of Springfield, Virginia, and they are an out-of-state corporate interest group fighting tooth and nail to interfere with New Hampshire businesses.
For those who are unfamiliar, SB-61 is a bill currently awaiting vote by the New Hampshire House of Representatives that aims to make us the first “right-to-work” state in the northeast.
Anything good about “right-to-work” ends in its misnomer of a name. Despite what supporters of this legislation would like us to think, this bill would provide no rights, and no work. Instead, all it does is weakens the ability of New Hampshire workers to join together to have a voice on the job. ....

Service + Solidarity Spotlight: New Hampshire AFL-CIO Provides PPE to State Lawmakers

February 26, 2021
Working people across the United States have stepped up to help out our friends, neighbors and communities during these trying times. In our regular Service + Solidarity Spotlight series, we’ll showcase one of these stories every day. Here’s today’s story.
After the U.S. District Court in Concord, New Hampshire, failed to provide remote access for at-risk legislators at the state House of Representatives, New Hampshire AFL-CIO President Glenn Brackett (IBEW) said union members handed out personal protective equipment (PPE) to lawmakers ahead of Wednesday’s House session at the NH Sportsplex.
“Last week, the New Hampshire AFL-CIO strongly urged our state representatives to provide remote accommodations for lawmakers who have special vulnerability to COVID-19, as defined by the [Americans with Disabilities Act] and Rehabilitation Act,” said Brackett. “Unfortunately, a federal judge ruled Monday that the House can proceed with in-person ses ....

AG: Legislature not bound by Sununu's mask order

BEDFORD — The meetings Wednesday and Thursday of the 400-member House of Representatives are the most divided Republicans and Democrats have been — at least in recent memory — after a federal court ruled that House Speaker Sherman Packard doesn’t have to offer a remote option for those with disabilities to participate.
The two parties will even have separate entrances to the NH Sportsplex in Bedford, where the sessions are being held to keep them as far apart as possible. And especially to keep the Democrats as far away from 90-plus seats set aside for the Republicans who won t wear a face mask or say they can’t for health reasons. ....

My Turn: 'Right to work' is wrong for New Hampshire families

My Turn: ‘Right to work’ is wrong for New Hampshire families
Published: 2/2/2021 6:00:36 AM
2020 was a difficult year for everyone, including New Hampshire’s labor movement. We watched as our workforce suddenly became labeled as “essential workers” and were asked to go to work in dangerous – even life threatening – conditions amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
But America’s labor movement was built on the principle of showing up – and we did. From the onset of the pandemic to now as it continues to rage on, the AFL-CIO held onto this principle and fought relentlessly to protect our workers.
Unfortunately here in the Granite State, this fight is just getting started. On Feb. 4, the New Hampshire Senate will vote on SB 61, a “right to work” bill that would make it harder for our working people to form unions and collectively bargain for better wages, benefits, and working conditions. ....
