MTN says Nigeria, its largest revenue earner,  lost close to 7% of its subscribers in the first quarter as a result of new regulations on the sale and activation of SIM cards, slowing down the company’s growth momentum. 
In April, Nigeria’s telecommunications regulator lifted a freeze on the registration of new subscribers by telecom operators, including MTN, that had been in place since December as the country approved new SIM guidelines. .. ....

Globacom woos inactive subscribers in new proposition


Telecommunications service provider, Globacom, has begun the New Year for its subscribers with the announcement of a 22X bonus offer on any recharge above N100 for all prepaid customers who have not used their lines for 30 consecutive days.
The Guardian reported on Monday that in November 2020, telecoms operators lost 47,028 customers, according to the latest subscribers’ statistics released by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). According to Globacom, eligible subscribers for the 22X, will not only enjoy 22 times the value of their recharge, but also receive an unprecedented 5GB free data upon the recharge of N100 and above. This is by far the biggest of such bonus offers by any operator in the market currently. ....

Glo raises hope for better Nigeria


Telecommunications firm, Globacom, has urged Nigerians to be hopeful of better days in 2021 despite the challenges of the previous year worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a goodwill message, it encouraged the citizens that there were reasons to be “grateful in the midst of challenges faced in the past year, especially as we were able to survive the year and witness the New Year together.
“We believe we should be grateful for getting through the year as individuals, families, and nation in spite of the challenges occasioned by the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic,” Globacom noted in the statement.
The company said it believed 2021 would be a better year for Nigerians, advising compatriots to think positively and go into the new year with hope, fortitude, and willpower to achieve their targets. ....
