Study on consistency of greenhouse gas concen

The Satellite Observation Center of the National Institute for Environmental Studies has been publicly providing global greenhouse gas concentrations (carbon dioxide and methane) retrieved in the cloud-free scenes by the Japanese satellites GOSAT (Greenhouse gases Observing SATellite; launched in January 2009) and GOSAT-2 (launched in October 2018). When concentration data from both satellites are used at the same time, it is important to understand in detail the extent of the differences in order to make a more correct interpretation. The research team led by Dr. YOSHIDA Yukio (Senior Researcher) and Dr. SOMEYA Yu (Senior Researcher) compared greenhouse gas concentration data obtained from each satellite using multiple methods to evaluate their quality and found that the data of both satellites are generally consistent within 1%, with slight regional differences.
This result is expected to lead to further utilization of greenhouse gas concentration data obtained by the GOSAT serie ....
