ONE of the most well known, early twentieth century photographs of the Pontypool area is that of the skaters on Glyn Ponds. The Glyn Ponds were in the Glyn Valley which ran from Lower Race to Hafodyrynys (‘Cwm Glyn’ became later known as ‘Crumlin’). The ponds were originally a source of water for the Glyn Furnace and the Town Forge as well as the Monmouthshire canal (Crumlin branch). Skating on Glyn Ponds.
