By Staff Reporter KWEKWE has recommended restrictions on public gatherings in the city after Kwekwe Residents chairperson and prominent businessman Robson Kadenhe has succumbed to Covid-19 complications. Kadenhe is believed to have contracted the virus through a niece who recently returned from India where a rampaging Covid-19 menace continues to claim thousands. India has in recent weeks become a global Covid-19 epicentre registering an average of at least 3 000 Covid-19 deaths a day. “Community mobilisation and health education needs to be stepped up. Public gatherings must be restricted in the city. “All returnees and foreigners need to be tested for Covid-19 and quarantined,” read city preliminary recommendations. ....
By Anna Chibamu A KWEKWE man who died from Covid-19 after contact with a niece who had just returned from India where thousands have succumbed to a deadly variant has brought panic among health authorities in the city. Robson Kadenhe (76) of Chicago Plots along Gokwe Road who was a known hypertension patient on treatment died on Wednesday after testing positive to Covid-19. However, health authorities are yet to determine if he had contracted the deadly Indian cov2 variant that has caused chaos in the Asian country where thousands are dying daily. Kadenhe’s wife, Mary also tested positive, but their niece Nataly Kadenhe (21) tested negative to the disease. ....
Staff Reporter A police officer is battling for life at Kwekwe General Hospital after he was deliberately run over by a pirate commuter omnibus in the early hours of Friday. According to the police, Assistant Inspector Dumisani Pondo, who is based at Amaveni Police Station in the Midlands city, was run over by a kombi driver who has been identified as Morris Mukwendi. Pondo, according to a police report, was manning a roadblock along Gokwe Road in the company of other police officers while targeting unregistered motor vehicles and “mushikashika” and unregistered kombis operating under the ZUPCO franchise. It is said Mukwendi, who was driving a white Isuzu, was intercepted by the police at West End turn-off and was stopped by the police officers. ....
