Diane Abbott hits out at Tory MPs over calls to end lockdown in Aprill | Politics | News

During a press interview, the Prime Minister said: "If we possibly can, we will be setting out dates.
"And just to help people think about what we're trying to do on February 22, remember what we did around about this time last year, or a little bit later - we set out a road map going forward into the summer looking a little bit beyond, that's what we're going to be trying to do.
"The dates that we will be setting out will be the dates by which we hope we can do something at the earliest if you see what I mean - so it's the target date by which we hope to do something at the earliest.

During an interview with Sky News, JD Wetherspoon boss Tim Martin insisted the pub chain plans to bring back all staff currently furloughed once coronavirus lockdown measures are eased and pubs are able to re-open. The founder of the leading UK pub chain made the announcement amid calls for pubs and restaurants to be allowed to re-open by Easter. Originally the Government intended for pubs and restaurant to resume trading in May, with takeaway drinks being permitted from April.

READERS' LETTERS: Tone deaf to the plight of Scottish fishing post-Brexit

Sir, – A major flaw of the UK parliamentary system is, when it gets a huge majority, it switches off its radar in favour of its ideological compass.
Small voices are easily ignored. The fishing industry is in this category. In one of the toughest working environments, it must be heartbreaking to see your catch “dumped” due to not having the correct paperwork.
These “bits of paper” are designed to keep regulatory record of goods shipped from a company, which a day before, was passed through with other “bits of paper”.
It seems the negotiators of post-Brexit changes are of the view that as of January 1, product going cross-border is suddenly defective or fraudulent.

SNP demands Boris Johnson 'pays Brexit compensation to Scotland'

Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
Boris Johnson has been told to “pay compensation to Scotland”, as Brexit disruption begins to bite for Scottish firms.
Hundreds of businesses including retailers Marks and Spencer, Tesco and Fortnum and Mason were hit by Brexit red-tape at the borders last week.
Scottish seafood exporters were also impacted, with new systems of bureaucracy and IT problems causing shipments to be spoiled.
With Westminster to return from recess on Monday, SNP Westminster leader Ian Blackford has called on the UK Government to make provision for a multi-billion-pound compensation package to mitigate the costs to Scotland’s businesses and economy.
