Meet The First Female Lieutenant Colonel from Arunachal Pradesh!

In September 2019, Ponung Doming made history by becoming the first female Lieutenant Colonel from Arunachal Pradesh. But this was not the first time this brave woman made headlines! In 2012, she was the first Army Major from the state, having reached the position in just four-and-a-half years since being commissioned into the Indian Army in 2008.
Born to Olom Doming and Jimmi Dai Doming, Doming is the eldest of four siblings. Originally from Pasighat, the headquarters of East Siang district in Arunachal Pradesh, Doming did her schooling at Government Daying Ering Higher Secondary School and IGJ Government Higher Secondary School. She earned her civil engineering degree in 2005 from Walchand College of Engineering in Maharashtra. She went on to work for Larsen & Toubro in Kolkata for about two years, while also preparing for the Services Selection Board to join the Indian armed forces.
