MANGALURU: Plans are afoot to set up oxygen plants for government hospitals in Dakshina Kannada district, said Mangaluru City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath.
At a meeting of oxygen suppliers, representatives of the Indian Medical Association and officials convened on Monday, the MLA said hospitals in Dakshina Kannada should not suffer due to oxygen shortage crisis at any cost.
“We have discussed measures to be taken to ensure uninterrupted supply of oxygen to hospitals. The Mangalore Chemicals & Fertilizers (MCF) has already agreed to set up oxygen plants in ESI Hospital in the city and at the taluk hospital in Bantwal under the CSR activity. Meanwhile, the Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) has come forward to set up an oxygen plant for another taluk hospital in the district under their CSR initiative. Similarly, two more oxygen plants will also be set up for the taluk hospitals in the district. We have prepared a plan to complete all the projects at the earliest,” Kamath said.

MANGALURU: As many as 1,006 persons including doctors, nurses and other staff from the healthcare sector received vaccine against Covid-19 in Dakshina Kannada district on the second day of drive on Monday.
While the health department had fixed a target to vaccinate 2,240 healthcare workers at 24 centres including government hospitals and medical colleges in the district, only 45% people turned up. On the first day of the drive held on Saturday, the department had a target to cover 508 people through the vaccination drive held at six centres, but only 229 (45%) people received the shots and 62 had refused to get a vaccine.

MANGALURU: Nearly 250 healthcare workers in Dakshina Kannada district participated in the mock exercise held as part of the Covid-19 vaccine dry run on Friday.
Doctors, nurses and other staff including drivers in the health sector were "administered" vaccine shots during the mock exercise at nine centres including Government Wenlock District Hospital in the city ensuring district's preparedness for the upcoming Covid vaccination drive.
In addition to Wenlock Hospital, the dry runs were conducted at Urban Public Health Centre (PHC) in Surathkal, Bantwal Taluk Hospital, Community Health Centre in Kadaba, PHC in Naravi, Yenepoya Medical College, Deralakatte, KVG Medical College, Sullia, Indiana Hospital and KS Hegde Medical Academy in Deralakatte.

Covid-19 vaccine dry run to be held at 9 centres in Dakshina Kannada | Mangaluru News

MANGALURU: Health department in Dakshina Kannada is fully geared up to carry out Covid-19 vaccine dry run at nine centres in the district on Friday.
Dr B V Rajesh, reproductive and child health (RCH) officer of Dakshina Kannada told TOI that the inoculation dry run will be held at Government Wenlock District Hospital, Urban Public Health Centre (PHC) in Surathkal, Bantwal Taluk Hospital, Community Health Centre in Kadaba, PHC in Naravi, Yenepoya Medical College, Deralakatte, KVG Medical College, Sullia, Indiana Hospital and KS Hegde Medical Academy in Deralakatte.
“We have identified 25 beneficiaries each from the health sector, including doctors, nurses, drivers and others, to take part in the Covid-19 vaccine dry run at the identified centres. All guidelines related to the vaccination drive will be followed during the dry run. All beneficiaries should reach the vaccination centre by following the Covid appropriate behaviour strictly and they will be allowed to enter the centre alone. We will verify beneficiaries’ documents before they are allowed inside the vaccination room,” Dr Rajesh said.

MANGALURU: A full-fledged surgical block of 1.30 lakh sqft will be ready at Government Wenlock District Hospital in Mangaluru in two years.
A foundation stone laying ceremony was held for the Rs 39.19 crore project, which is being taken up through the Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL), on Monday.
The ground-plus-five storey new surgical block will have 12 operation theatres and 192 beds in its pre-operative and post-operative wards.
A bridge will be constructed to link the surgical and medicine blocks of the hospital.
A Central Sterile Supply Department and Sterile Store will be set up in the new building which will also house X-ray wing, a radiology wing, pharmacy and laundry sections.
