By Erica Thomas, managing editor GRAYSON VALLEY The Center Point Fire District (CPFD) responded to a house fire in Grayson Valley on Monday, March 1, 2021. Fire Chief Gene Coleman said crews got the call around 7 p.m. The fire was at a home in the 2600 block of Janice Circle. Upon arrival, firefighters could see smoke and fire coming from the home. “They made an offensive attack, controlled the fire,” said Coleman. “They’re deconning [decontaminating] right now.” Coleman said it appears no one was in the home when firefighters arrived and no injuries were reported. Trussville Fire & Rescue responded to assist CPFD and Alabama Power was also on the scene. Deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office were also near the scene blocking entry to Janice Circle. ....
From The Tribune staff reports TRUSSVILLE The Tribune coverage area was blanketed in snow on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021, and the National Weather Service in Birmingham was monitoring the winter weather for issues expected into Wednesday. Grayson Valley accumulated .3 inches of dry, fluffy snow, while 1 inch was reported in Blount County. West Alabama saw more accumulation. There were 2 inches in Walker County, according to the National Weather Service. Pickens County Emergency Management reported an ice storm Tuesday morning that brought about power outages, trees coated in ice, and roads coated in ice from freezing rain and sleet. As clouds decreased, much of the snow disappeared but the ice threat continued. Temperatures were low and were expected to remain below freezing into Wednesday. From The Tribune staff reports TRUSSVILLE The Trussville Police Department arrested two people after a shoplifting case turned into a near-death experience for one officer. Reginald Jermaine Nelson, 39, of Birmingham, and Tavares Prince Nelson, 39, of Ensley, are both charged with attempted murder and robbery. Trussville Police were first dispatched to Walmart on a call about a shoplifting incident at 9:50 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2020. The suspect was accused of stealing $122.60 worth of assorted merchandise from the store. When the officer arrived on the scene, he said he found Walmart’s Loss Prevention Officer in a scuffle with the suspect, Reginald Nelson. The officer attempted to pull the suspect off of the Walmart employee but the suspect took off through the parking lot, according to a police report. ....
