The Wayne County Board met for their regular monthly meeting Thursday evening at the Wayne County Courthouse. Fairfield Park Board President Jay Fyie and Park Board member Linda Monge addressed the board seeking funding for a portion of the cost of the proposed Splash Pad at Leo French Park. Estimated cost of the project is $750,000. The Park Board had originally filed a grant request with the County Board seeking $100,000, but at last nights meeting, both Park Board representatives stated they would certainly take whatever the board saw fit to appropriate. The District V Ag Education Career Development Event was held on Tuesday, December 6th at Mt. Vernon High School. Students participating submitted a lesson plan, prior to the event, that they would teach to an Introduction to Agriculture Education class. Participants then presented a ten minute segment of their designed lesson to a room of students while the judges observed. The individuals participating were scored on their lesson plan, delivery of lesson as well as follow-up questions in addition to their provided reflection and a written test. Esther Pauline Thomason, age 92, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Sunday, November 27, 2022, at Flora Gardens Care Center. She was born July 27, 1930, in Olney, the daughter of Peter and Stella (Scherer) Fulk. She was united in marriage to Raymond Thomason on September 3, 1951, and together they shared 51 wedding anniversaries until his death on January 7, 2003. Pauline was a graduate of Richland County High School.
