Four Malaysians make debut on Forbes billionaires list

In Forbes 35th annual list of the world s billionaires, brothers Tan Yu Yeh and Tan Yu Wei made their debut with estimated net worths of US$1.8bil and US$1.1bil respectively.
The brothers have seen their fortunes soar following the initial public offering of MR DIY on Bursa Malaysia in October last year with a market capitalisation of RM10bil upon listing.
Gnanalingam was included in the list with an estimated net worth of US$1.7bil while Tan Eng Kee became another of the world s US-dollar billionaires with an estimated net worth of US$1.1bil. ....

A pure renewable energy firm emerges

A corporate exercise quietly announced a week ago seems to have gotten the notice of some investors.
Pimpinan Ehsan Bhd (PEB), a company that was controlled by tycoon Tan Sri Rozali Ismail, a cash shell looking for an acquisition target, made two stock exchange filings on Feb 19.
One, that Rozali and other shareholders had sold out of the company to new parties, thereby triggering a mandatory general offer (MGO) and two, that PEB was planning to acquire solar power assets.
Since the announcement, PEB shares have almost doubled in a matter of a week.
So why the excitement?
It is likely to do with the fact that PEB is morphing into a pure play renewable energy company, a move which sits well with the global push towards environmental goals. Another reason could be the presence of seasoned corporate personality Lim Beng Guan as the new major shareholder of PEB. ....

Rising tech boom on Bursa

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 26): Share prices of semiconductor-related companies on Bursa Malaysia are hitting record highs; so are their latest quarterly earnings.
The few companies that posted record high quarterly net profits are UWC Bhd, Vitrox Corp Bhd, Inari Amertron Bhd and Greatech Technology Bhd.
Fund managers and investment analysts told The Edge that the astronomical increases in earnings among semiconductor companies are expected to continue in the current year, particularly because of the chip shortage that has been accentuated by the further computerisation of consumer electronics, the implementation of 5G, and greater usage of technology in the automotive industry.
TA Investment Management Chief Information Officer Choo Swee Kee expects earnings for semiconductor companies to be strong on the recovery of consumer demand for electronic and electrical products post-pandemic worldwide. ....

THE Top 40 Richest in Malaysia list for 2020 saw the entries of new tech billionaires from five companies, as they became beneficiaries of the China-United States trade tensions as well as a Covid-19 pandemic-induced electronic equipment demand surge, as lockdowns forced people to work from home.
Net worth is computed based on the closing share price of the companies as at Dec 31,2020.
It is worth noting that Penang is the base for four of the five new tech companies on the list, with the exception of Melaka-based D&O Green Technologies Bhd ....
