The Mason City boys basketball team has itself a winning streak.

A new cafeteria, a new gym, new offices – highlight the short list of upgrades the school made. The Mason City girls basketball came extremely close again to pulling off a stunning victory over a ranked opponent on Tuesday night. After going scoreless in the first quarter against Waverly-Shell Rock, the Mohawks outscored the Go-Hawks, 45-37, over the final three frames.  Mason City scored 20 points in the fourth but couldn't quite close the gap, as the Mohawks fell to 0-8 with a 49-45 loss.  Three players did all of the scoring for Mason City, as junior Jada Williams led the way with 19 points on 6-of-15 shooting, with four 3-pointers. The Mason City boys basketball team scored an important win on Tuesday night, with a 65-59 victory over Fort Dodge.  The Mohawks were led on offense by junior Corey Miner, who put up 33 points on 11-of-19 shooting, with nine free throws. Mason City took a 35-29 halftime lead, which held up as the two teams scored an identical 30 points in the second half.  Along with Miner's scoring explosion, junior Brandon Shipman came through with 12 rebounds. Four area teams competed in wrestling tournaments this past weekend and here is a look at how they did. In Calmar: West Delaware crowned six champions and defeated second ranked Osage for the team title at the South Winneshiek Invitational. 52 of the top ranked Hawks’ 275 points came from bonus points as they beat the Green Devils by 77 points, as they had nine wrestlers reach the finals and got individual titles from Blake Engel, Jadyn Peyton, Kyle Cole, Wyatt Voelker, Christian Nunley, and Carson Petlon.  For complete results click HERE.
