MOUNT OLIVE â The University of Mount Olive board of trustees recently appointed five new members to its 30-member board. The new members include Pam Hardison Braxton of Deep Run, Paula Coates of Benson, Sylvia Herring of Benson, Borden Franklin âFrankieâ Howell Jr. of Goldsboro, and Robert Wilkerson of Greenville. The members will serve a six-year term, except for Herring, who is filling an unexpired term for the next two years, said Rhonda Jessup, UMO director of public relations. The board of trustees is UMO s governing body that has made decisions for the university that have shaped the growth of the institution through the years, Jessup said. ....
The City of Greenville will kick off its July Fourth holiday with a celebration at the Town Common at 105 E. First St., which will include fireworks and festivities for attendees after the annual event was missed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Recreation and Parks Superintendent Heather White said the celebration will begin at 5 p.m. on July 4 and will last until the fireworks finale at 9:15 p.m. by the pyrotechnics company Starfire Corporation. She said Sensory Expressions, a steel drums and Caribbean music band from Raleigh, North Carolina, will perform at 5 p.m., followed by the headlining act, The Chuck Phillips band. ....
