Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Sec. Michael Lloyd Dino called on Filipinos to consider the victory of Lapulapu in the Battle of Mactan as an inspiration in the fight against COVID-19. This was the message of Dino at the start of the 100-day countdown towards the 2021 Quincentennial Commemorations in the Philippines (QCP) on Jan. 17. The Philippines is set to mark the 500th anniversary of the Victory at Mactan, the Philippine part in the first circumnavigation of the world, on April 27, 2021. The Battle of Mactan depicts the Filipino's serious yearning and regard for liberty and independence, Dino noted in a speech read by Assistant Sec. Anthony Gerard "Jonji" Gonzales in Lapulapu Monument in Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City.
