KARACHI: Eidul Fitr, which is supposed to be a festival of happiness, was not an occasion of revelry for many people of the city as some even struggled to find food during the lockdown while for others, the strict lockdown orders marred their plans of merrymaking. In the meantime, some families who were displaced during the anti-encroachment drive spent the festival in protest outside the club.
At around 2:30pm on Saturday, the third day of Eid-ul-Fitr, a Christian boy in his 20s knocked at the door of his Muslim neighbours, a family of four comprising an elderly woman, her son, his wife and their six-month-old baby. Clad in an oversized pale pink shirt and grey bell bottom dress pants over a pair of worn out black trainers, he removed the curtain on the door to become visible to his neighbours and they understood by just looking at him that he was there to ask for roti. ....

SHC stays demolition of structures on leased properties around drains till SC's decision - Newspaper

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Friday restrained the authorities concerned from demolishing structures raised on leased properties around the Gujjar and Orangi nullahs till the adjudication of the relevant case by Supreme Court.
A two-judge bench headed by Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi observed that the matter was already sub-judice before the apex court and the SHC had no jurisdiction to pass any order for interpreting judgements of Supreme Court.
The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) submitted in court that they had already approached the SC to seek explanation of demolition of the leased properties around both the nullahs and that the matter was fixed by the apex court for May 17. ....

The Sindh High Court has restricted the relevant authorities on Friday from razing leased properties built along with the Gujjar and Orangi nullahs till the Supreme Court hears the case.
A two-member bench, comprising Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi and Justice Rashida Asad, was hearing a set of pleas against the demolitions of leased properties in the area. The petitioners counsel contended that while the apex court had directed the removal of encroachments, it had ordered nothing regarding the removal of people residing in properties leased out for 99 years by the former city district government. ....
