Curlin Florida Derby (G1) runner-up Mage breezed six furlongs in 1:14.78 Saturday morning at Gulfstream Park while prepping for a scheduled start in the May 6 Kentucky Derby (G1).
Mage, beaten a length by Kentucky Derby (G1) favorite Forte in the April 1 Curlin Florida Derby (G1) Presented by Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms at Xalapa, returned to the Gulfstream Park work tab Sunday morning, breezing an easy five furlongs in 1:01.09, as reported by Daily Racing Form’s Mike Welsch.
“She doesn’t grow much foot, so it’s been a bit of a challenge,” Pompay said. “We train her barefoot. We put the shoes on about a week out.
“Super Ocho worked as we expected. Edgar Perez, who rode him, said he was fantastic,” Sanchez said. “He came out of the work very well.”
