NAMED: 5 Gympie men and women on drug, drink driving charges

After a drug test and analysis, Iddles’ saliva tested positive for methamphetamine.
Iddles, who went to Gympie State High School, was on a suspended sentence at the time.
He has been on a disability support pension since the age of 19 and now works on and off as a tiler, concreter or carpenter, the court was told.
After Iddles pleading guilty in Gympie Magistrates Court, Magistrate Chris Callaghan fined him $200, disqualified him from driving for three months and recorded convictions.

A Southside street has become the second worst street for assaults in Gympie following Mary St, according to a Queensland Police data website.
It was a busy year overall for Gympie police as they dealt with a total of 168 assaults, which was the highest recorded total since 2002 when there were 174 assaults.
Looking more closely at the data, the months of March, June and December had the most recordings, with December being the worst, at 22 assaults.
Acting Gympie Police Station officer in charge Scott Poole said the spike in December was due to more people travelling and drinking in the region during the holiday season.

NAMED: The Gympie streets and suburbs plagued by drug crime

Gympie region and south east Queensland battled its biggest drug problem in nearly two decades when lockdown lifted in May, with a new generation of pushers who are using Instagram as their dial-a-dealer platform of choice.
Many turned their homes into major drug mail order operations or grow houses and meth labs, with the problem now so widespread professional chemical cleaning companies have warned tenants moving into a rental to get their property tested for drug contamination.
Despite all of this, reports of drug offences in the Gympie region have slightly dipped in the past 12 months, with 1200 reported drug offences investigated by the Gympie police in the past two years, and 554 in the past year.

Wide Bay pharmacy owner busted speeding through roadworks

Premium Content
A pharmacy owner has faced court for driving at nearly 40kmh above the speed limit.
While roadworks were being completed on the Bruce Highway at Gunalda on June 29, police observed a vehicle travelling at speed through the site, where the limit had been reduced to 40km/h.
Fazel Youshea Tim was stopped by police at the scene about 7.45am.
The court heard Tim was travelling 39km over the speed limit, which had been adjusted because of the roadworks.
He pleaded guilty to one count of speeding when he appeared before Maryborough Magistrates Court this week.
The court heard he lived in Brisbane but had two pharmacies, one at Tiaro and one at Burnett Heads, and regularly drove to the two sites.

Crisis deepens for region's most disadvantaged addresses

Community advocates are urging the Gympie region’s housing crisis be fixed as it continues to impact some of the highest socio-economically disadvantaged neighbourhoods in the country.
Census data captured in 2016 (the most recent available) revealed Tin Can Bay and the Toolara Forest areas were not only the most socio-economically disadvantaged in the Gympie region – based on its SEIFA (Socio-Economic Indexes for Areas) score – but in the country; 94 per cent of other Australian suburbs were better off.
This was followed closely by Gympie city.
The northern areas of Curra, Gunalda and Corella had the third highest level of disadvantage in the region, with Cooloola Cove and Rainbow Beach, and the Kilkivan and Goomeri districts rounding out the “top” five.

A 30-year-old has been told he is one step away from jail after being caught behind the wheel three times despite not having a licence.
Daniel John Grimstone-Remy was banned from driving in September 2020, but
Police prosecutor Sergeant Melissa Campbell told Gympie Magistrates Court police pulled him over at Kinbombi for speeding on October 3, 2020.
"When questioned the defendant stated he was just picking up a part for a window," Sgt Campbell said.
He was charged by police, but two days later on October 5 Grimstone-Remy was caught driving again on the Bruce Highway on his way to Maryborough.
