RANKED: 22 drink drivers to hit the Gympie courts in 2020

Each fortnight, a range of traffic matters face Gympie Magistrates Court, with many involving drink driving.
These are all the Gympie region residents who drove while over the high alcohol limit of .15, from highest reading to lowest.
1. Ian Arthur Moore
The 64-year-old Gympie retiree was more than five times the limit, blowing .261 when he crashed his car in Channon Street just before Christmas in 2019.
He pleaded guilty in Gympie Magistrates Court in 2020, was fined $1200 and disqualified from driving for 14 months.
2. Peter Charles Gayton
The 49-year-0ld, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of liquor after he blew .249 on Lawrence St in September.

3. Gympie mourns much-loved resident dead in horror crash
The Gympie and Cooloola communities were in mourning over the loss of one of their own in a horrible two car crash at Tinana.
74-year-old Bev Nimmo was killed when her red Toyota Corolla collided with a white RV heading north on the Iindah Rd West Bruce Highway on-ramp.

UPDATE: Teenage girl taken to hospital after 3 car crash


UPDATE 12PM: A teenage girl has been taken to Gympie Hospital after suffering minor injuries in a multi-vehicle crash at Curra.
A QAS spokeswoman said the girl was being assessed for possible spinal injuries, but these were not believed to be serious.
Emergency services are rushing to the scene of a crash on the highway at Curra.
She was hurt when her car collided with two others north of the David Dr turn off just after 9.45am.
Another patient was assessed at the scene but declined transport.
Traffic was delayed in both directions while emergency services cleared the wreckage, with the southbound lane backed up to the United Service Station at Gunalda.

A MOTORCYCLIST died following a crash at Maryborough on May 30.
Shortly before 1pm, police received reports about a motorcycle travelling around Dunn Street and Panorama Drive causing excessive noise.

With Christmas and New Year’s on the horizon there is no shortage of high traffic, parties, and subsequently more need for safety on Gympie’s roads.
Out of 21 crashes throughout the region in December last year, 12 ended with at least one person in hospital.
At this time of year, Queensland Police Service are encouraging drivers to remember the fatal five of speeding, drink driving, seatbelts, drug driving, medication and driving, fatigue and distractions, to keep yourself and loved ones safe.
As people are urged to stay safe on our roads, we look back at some of the drivers who risked lives of themselves and others on the region’s roads this year.

REVEALED: The red hot property hot spots of Gympie region


Gympie homeowners and sellers near the city centre struck their own gold mine this year, with four of the region’s five biggest property price rises recorded within 10 minutes of the CBD.
This expansion of the market helped push the average sale prices of the region’s homes up 3 per cent between September 2019 and September 2020, figures from online property hub CoreLogic reveal.
Gympie s best performing housing markets in 2020 were largely within a 10 minute drive of the CBD.
The biggest jump was at Monkland, where the median sale price of a house soared 16.7 per cent, from $248,500 to $290,000.
Chatsworth ran a close second with 12.9 per cent growth, pushing the medium prices from $385,000 to $435,000.

It has been a horror year on Queensland roads in 2020, and the Gympie region has been no exception.
260 people have died in 235 fatal crashes across the state to December 13, according to the Queensland Road Crash Weekly Report.
Those numbers are up a staggering 21.5 per cent and 22.4 per cent respectively on the statistics from this time last year.

YOU do not have to look far for quality child care in the Gympie region, with more than 90 per cent of the region s services at or above the national standard.
The latest rankings from the Australian Children s Education and Care Quality Authority reveal 22 of the region s 24 child care centres are meeting or exceeding Australia s national quality standards.
Of these 22 centres, 14 were rated by the ACECQA as exceeding the NQS.
