We all ideally want to get the best care and medicine every time we visit the hospital.
That becomes more difficult when it has trouble turning a profit, leading to higher costs of care.
“The issue of thin margin is challenging to all healthcare organizations,” Gundersen Medical Foundation board chair Dr. Stephen Shapiro said at a media briefing Tuesday.
But those margins for Gundersen Health System are widening thanks to more than $5 million in grants.
“The benefit of grant funding is it validates the direction we’re going,” Shapiro said.

'Steppin' Out in Pink' registration open for 2021

Registration is now open for Steppin’ Out In Pink, which will be September.
Plans for this year’s event depend on COVID-19 risk in our area.
But if the risk remains low, the event would return to Gundersen Health System’s La Crosse campus.
No matter how the event is held this year, community members can step it up for those in need.
“Create your team and get your neighbors involved, your sisters, your husbands, your friends and family, everybody. We want to see really a lot of support this year,” said Gundersen Medical Foundation special events coordinator Tia Sneath.

'Steppin' Out in Pink' donates backpacks, water bottles to School District of La Crosse

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – ‘Steppin’ Out in Pink’ is stepping up for kids in our area.
Staff from the Gundersen Medical Foundation stopped by the La Crosse School District’s Hogan Administration Building Tuesday to drop off backpacks and water bottles for students.
The donation will help to keep kids safe.
“With COVID you can’t have water fountains in use. So students are being required to bring water bottles. So we just wanted to provide, we had it on hand,” said Gundersen Health System special events coordinator Tia Sneath.
More than 130 backpacks and more than 70 water bottles were donated.
