Tansey Showgrounds upgraded through Government drought grant

Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien announced the Show Society would be given $23,848 to buy two shaded grandstands to improve the showgrounds during hot or inclement weather.
“While we’ve seen good rainfall in some parts of Wide Bay, many communities like Tansey will still be feeling the effects of the prolonged drought, and has been further compounded by the additional challenges of COVID-19, making our ongoing support all the more vital,” Mr O’Brien said.

“This funding for Tansey Show Society is part of a $1.1 million investment under the Foundation for Rural Regional Renewal’s Tackling Tough Times Together program to help build social connections in the community, encourage greater participation in events at the Showgrounds, and stimulate the local economy.”

Gympie Police warn drivers ahead of Easter road safety blitz

Inspector Pat Swindells from the Gympie Patrol Group.
The Fatal Five – speeding, fatigue, impaired driving (drink and drug), failure to wear a seat belt and driver distraction and inattention - will be high on the priority list.
There will be roadside testing for drugs and alcohol, and “covert and overt speed enforcement in high risk zones”.
Inspector Pat Swindells of the Gympie Patrol Group said police were concerned with a “growing number of lives lost” on Queensland roads.
“There has been a 46 per cent increase in vehicle related fatalities compared to the same time period last year,” Inspector Swindells said.

Gympie Muster unveils 'very special' anniversary ambassador

The 12-time Country Music Awards of Australia winner was announced as Muster ambassador this week, and will close the festival with his set in the Crow Bar on Sunday night.
The performance will be Brand’s first at the Crow Bar since his first Muster gig in 1998.
“I am honoured to be the Gympie Music Muster Ambassador this year, and to celebrate it, I’m going back to where I started in 1998, the mighty Crow Bar,” Brand said.
“I’m doing the curtain closing party with my brothers Cornell & Carr. The very last note, the very last drum beat, the very last hurrah for the 40th birthday of the one and only Gympie Muster. Sunday night, loud, proud and last.”

The patient was assessed for unknown injuries and taken from the scene to Gympie Hospital in a stable condition.
The latest incident follows at least four on the region’s roads to kick off the Easter weekend, with two crashes on the Bruce Highway northbound causing traffic chaos.
A two vehicle crash near Tiaro blocked one lane of the highway at about 10am, while traffic going in the same direction was delayed by a minor incident near Bauple in the early afternoon.

A teenager was killed in a four-wheel drive rollover in August, while two teenagers were flown to hospital after their four-wheel drive crashed on the beach last month.
The ABC revealed this week onlookers and rescuers at the scene of both the double drowning and fatal crash said they were unable to raise help from the beach due to a lack of phone reception, causing significant delays to emergency service response times.
Noosa Shire Council Mayor Clare Stewart, also chair of Noosa's Local Disaster Management Group, told the ABC reception black spots in the area were "a real concern".
