Both cars had one occupant each. A 51-year-old Widgee man died at the scene. In the moments following the crash, a 28-year-old Lagoon Pocket woman left her vehicle to help the drivers. A third car then crashed into the two stationary cars, causing injury to both the women and the driver of the second car, a 54-year-old Amamoor Creek man. Both people were injured and taken to Gympie Hospital. The driver of the third car was not injured. The Forensic Crash Unit will be investigating both crashes separately. Mother and guide leader Leonora Cox said her daughter will be attending a formal presentation at Government House later this month. “Youth from all over Queensland are presented Queen’s Guide and Queen’s Scout awards and Gold Duke Of Edinburgh awards by the Governor of Queensland,” Ms Cox said. Three well-worn wooden bridges in the Gympie region will be getting a concrete upgrade thanks to more than $2 million help from the State and Federal Governments. The timber bridges on Widgee Crossing Rd (across Gympie Creek), Glastonbury Creek Rd and Ryan Rd will be replaced by concrete structures thanks to the funding, which was given under the Local Economic Recovery Program. The biggest slice of the pie ($837,000) will go towards upgrading the bridge on Widgee Crossing Rd. Another $600,000 will be spent on the Glastonbury Creek Rd replacement, and the remaining $585,000 will go towards the Ryan Rd bridge upgrade. The bridge replacement has been funded by the State and Federal Local Economic Recovery Program. ....
