PUTRAJAYA: Promoting menus such as buka puasa buffets and Ramadan sets as halal without having proper halal certification is a an offence under the Trade Descriptions Act 2011, says the Islamic Development Department (Jakim).
The Supreme Court has sought responses from the Uttar Pradesh government and other authorities regarding two separate pleas challenging the November 2021 notification that prohibited the manufacturing, sale, and distribution of food products with halal certification in the state, except for those produced for export.
The petitions came up for hearing before a bench of Justices B R Gavai and Sandeep Mehta which issued notice to the Uttar Pradesh government, Centre and others seeking their responses on the pleas.
ASN Ministry of Foreign Affairs is requested to be the glue of the community.
