That the number was 27,000. the only source on this is the associated press. did you know about this? ed, i did not. i thought it was 9,000. let me just tell you this. the only good that s come out of this disaster, this bp halliburton disaster is that every week, good reporters are looking at stories that we wouldn t have paid attention to a year ago, they won t have been stories. every week i know you get the same thing. reporters call and they say what about this and then they follow up. that s the good that s coming out. this story is an ugly story. first of all, i m in the midst of this business in the midst of this lawsuit and i did not note it was 27,000. i thought it was somewhere around 9,000, which was still a problem. but here s the point. it just tells me they do whatever the hell they want and they do whatever they want. they do. you can t tell me there s 27,000 permits. you know, here s the real problem. there s nobody if you were to ask who s in charge, there ....
No regular inspections no regular oversight. no one s checking to see if these things are leaking or trying to find out if they re deteriorating. nobody s doing anything because again the petroleum industry has overtaken control of our regulatory agencies. the reason they re able to do this is because it s cheap. they don t have to fix them. so nobody makes them fix them. nobody makes them inspect or do what they should do. it s because they can squeeze another penny out of the system by doing nothing. that is the petroleum industry s way. we re seeing it more and more as stories like this come forward. frankly, these are the kind of stories we won t have heard about a year ago till this bp disaster. no doubt about it. mike, you ve told me off the air that bp is doing the clean-up on the cheap, that the pictures of the laborers on the shore are a heck i ve lot more impressive and the equipment being out there than it is getting skimmers out there doing the ....
That s why this is going to be a really bad election for the democrats. this immigration debate is going to be part of that because it feeds into this animosity that people have towards illegal immigrants because they feel they re taking away jobs. i think that for holder to do this lawsuit is a disaster for the democrats politically because it feeds into the job narrative and the atlantic jobs narrative. i think republicans are going to take advantage of this and do very well in the election. what do you make, jack? the federal lawsuit, was it a mistake or a move that really addresses reform? it addresses reform. i don t care whether this is popular or not. i don t care whether the majority of americans think this is right or not. the civil rights movement would have gone down in flames if we were talking about popularity. it s something that must be done. the obama administration is making a hard call, a good call in this case. and you know what is this they may pay the price in ....
