Springfield City Council considers creating historic district to preserve Gunn Block near Armory

SPRINGFIELD The City Council is considering designating the Gunn Block at 473-477 State St. a local historic district, aimed at enhancing its preservation and future use.
Believed to be the oldest still-standing commercial building in Springfield, the Gunn Block is across from the Springfield Armory National Historic Site and is already listed as a historic property by the city and state. The three-story block, built circa 1830, was stabilized last year by its owner, DevelopSpringfield, aided by a $250,000 grant from the Community Preservation Committee and $168,000 from the MassDevelopment brownfields program. ....
