Jackson State alum and renowned NBA sports writer Sekou Smith passed away due to complications of COVID-19.

Sekou Smith, 48, died of COVID-19 on Tuesday, the NBA has announced The sports reporter had covered basketball for more than two decades The father-of-three was a regular on NBA TV and NBA.com, and hosted The Hang Time Podcast It is not clear when Smith contracted the coronavirus.  NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said called Smith 'a beloved member of the NBA family' and 'a terrific friend to so many across the league' Smith leaves behind wife Heather and children, Gabriel, Rielly, and Cameron
