During the recent board of education meeting, Superintendent Shawn Bishop informed the board of the delinquent balances.
After some discussion, the board elected to have the school officials continue to reach out to these delinquent students to pay their outstanding balances. In the meantime, the district will transfer funds from the general fund to the food services account.
In addition, the board agreed to apply for a grant through the state's 31K Grant Reimbursement. The board will apply for funding to match the amount owed by students. Bishop later said the district will apply for the grant, but there is no guarantee it will be received.

The Harbor Beach City Council voted Feb. 1 to purchase two trucks from Ordus Ford.
Department of Public Works Supervisor Mike Jurgess had solicted bids from local vehicle dealerships, and presented a request to council to purchase the two vehicles.
Council agreed to purchase a 2021 Ford 250 truck from Ordus Ford, Inc. for a price of $33,875. This vehicle will replace the 2016 DPW pick-up truck they are currently using, and it will be transferred to the Harbor Beach Waste Water Treatment Plant.
Jurgess also requested the city purchase a smaller pick-up truck. He had previously solicited bids and felt the best deal would be through Ordus Ford, Inc. After hearing his request, the city council agreed to purchase the Ford 150 pick-up truck at a price of $27,500 from Ordus.

HARBOR BEACH — There will be no changes to the Harbor Beach Board of Education's officers this year.
During the district's organizational meeting Jan. 20, the board unanimously voted to keep the same officers in place, with Ron Hiller as board president, Allan Booth as vice-president, Paul Hunter as treasurer and Nancy Krueger as secretary.
Huron Intermediate School District accountant Stacey Viers attended the meeting to give the first budget amendment for the 2020-2021 school year. Viers, who acts as the Harbor Beach chief financial officer, projected a $98,000 increase in district revenues over the original budget.

According to Harbor Beach Superintendent Sean Bishop, the district's audit went well.
"It was a clean audit," Bishop said after the meeting. "We received the highest rating possible."
According to Bishop, every area of the district's finances were inspected and proven accurate.
The actual audit took place in the late summer and the board was scheduled to receive a presentation in the fall, but due to the pandemic the face-to-face presentation was delayed. The board had hoped to receive the presentation in person before Dec. 31, the deadline to approve the audit. However, due to the pandemic, Zoom was the next best option.
