CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WV News) — The Harrison County Republican Executive Committee and the Republican candidate for Harrison County Commission have filed an appeal of the commission’s dismissal of their petition challenging the November election.
The appeal, filed Tuesday in Harrison County Circuit Court by candidate Mickey Petitto and Republican Executive Committee Chair Virginia Rockwell without an attorney, alleges the commission took an “illegal vote to dismiss” the challenge in violation of the state’s open meetings laws.
The commission voted 2-to-1, with Commissioners Ron Watson and Patsy Trecost in favor and Commissioner David Hinkle against, to dismiss the complaint, which alleged mishandling of absentee ballots. ....
