Published February 24, 2021 12:09pm At least four people were reported missing in Surigao del Sur after a boat capsized amid the onslaught of Tropical Depression Auring, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said. In an update on Wednesday, NDRRMC said a search and rescue operation is ongoing to find the missing persons. The number of fatalities due to Auring remained at one. According to NDRRMC, the victim died due to drowning in Surigao del Norte. Two people were reported injured, including one who was struck by lightning while the other one was hit by galvanized iron sheets.
The total number of passengers, drivers, and cargo helpers who were stranded in different ports in the country is now at 4,565 due to Tropical Depression Auring, the Philippines Coast Guard said on Monday.

Published February 22, 2021 2:47pm State weather agency PAGASA lifted Monday the prevailing storm signal as it downgraded Auring, now headed for the eastern coast of Albay, into a low pressure area (LPA). In its 2 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA lifted the Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over nine areas but said the northeast monsoon or Amihan will continue to bring a strong breeze to Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Aurora, and Quezon. The weather bureau said Auring weakened into an LPA at 11 a.m. prior to crossing the Rapu-Rapu Islands in Albay. The center of the LPA was last seen over the coastal waters of Rapu-Rapu.

Biliran According to PAGASA, moderate to heavy rains are expected over Northern Samar, Bicol Region, Marinduque, Romblon, and Quezon. Light to moderate with at times heavy rains will be experienced over Western Visayas, Aurora, Rizal, Samar, northern portion of Eastern Samar and the rest of MIMAROPA. PAGASA warned of possible isolated to scattered flooding, including flash floods, and rain-induced landslides during heavy or prolonged rainfall in areas that are prone to these hazards or have experienced significant rainfall over the past couple of days. Even without rainfall, PAGASA added that adjacent or nearby areas may also experience flooding due to surface runoff or swelling of river channels.
