HLTA holds annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk | Honolulu Star-Advertiser

The Hawai‘i Lodging & Tourism Association (HLTA) held its annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk on Oahu, Kauai and Maui County on Saturday, May 4, 2024. Hawaii island will hold a walk May 11. The Charity Walk was founded in 1974 and expanded statewide in 1978. This tradition of giving is now Hawai‘i’s largest single-day fundraising event by a non-profit organization. Since its inception, more than $45 million has been raised for the community.

Hotel union workers gather in Waikiki to kickoff bargaining | Honolulu Star-Advertiser

More than 1,500 workers gathered in Waikiki to celebrate International Worker’s Day and demand the hotel industry “Respect Our Work” and “Respect Our Guests” by raising wages and reversing staffing cuts that have led to painful working conditions and reductions in guest services and amenities. The action kicks off a key bargaining year for Local 5 hotels in Hawaii, where 17 contracts covering over 7,000 hotel workers are set to expire. The bulk of these contracts expire at the end of June across three islands.
