Galesburg City Council will discuss two items related to a community center and its funding on Monday. Galesburg Aldermen have a work session planned for Monday night where they likely will hire a new city manager and may provide direction on the future of a community center. Peoria-based Farnsworth Group was hired by the council to create a "master plan" for a new community center. Farnsworth officials are expected to provide details about converting four different spaces into a community center; including the Hawthorne Pool and Churchill Junior High. Galesburg Aldermen approved a bid on Monday night to repair the Hawthorne Pool, even though the work is now almost $1 million than originally anticipated. Council is not sure how they're going to cover that $900,000 difference other than to use American Rescue Plan Act funds. The three bids received were all over budget. Staff did work with the lowest bidder to reduce the price by delaying certain components of the work.
