Riley County commission to look into mask extension in next health order

Riley County commission to look into mask extension in next health order
Riley County commissioners will look into extending the current mask mandate into Manhattan in the next local health order.
Approval was given to have language that includes the City of Manhattan when looking into Local Health Order No. 21.  The reason this was brought up during Monday’s meeting was due to the possibility of Manhattan’s mandate expiring April 1st.
County Counselor Clancy Holeman says the current Local Health Order No. 20 does not include Manhattan, since the city has had a mandate in place.  The health order only includes the rural areas and smaller cities throughout the county. ....

The Climb continues: Town Council approves return of World Championship Snowmobile Hill Climb at Snow King

The annual World Championship Snowmobile Hill Climb is returning to Snow King after a one-year, coronavirus-related hiatus, though the approval includes some caveats that will make it “a much different-looking event than in years past,” said Carl Pelletier, the town of Jackson’s special events coordinator.
At its regular meeting Monday night, the council voted unanimously to approve Councilor Jim Rooks’ motion to allow the 44th Hill Climb to move forward with 1,000 spectators. However, included in Rooks’ amended motion was a mechanism that allows for Jackson Police Chief Michelle Weber to decrease the allowed attendance based on how people are behaving and other health and safety factors. Weber will debrief daily with officials from the Jackson Hole Snow Devils, who organize the event, and Jackson Mayor Hailey Morton Levinson. In past years there was only one debriefing following the event’s end. ....

New Riley County health order to end most COVID restrictions on bars and restaurants
The Riley County Health Department will lift most COVID-19 restrictions on businesses, starting Monday, March 1.
Riley County Local Health Officer Julie Gibbs has issued Health Order No. 20 which rescinds all parts of Order 19 except for mandatory masks and face coverings to be worn in all public spaces throughout the county. Residents are still strongly encouraged to maintain social distancing and follow health and safety guidelines from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Gibbs says the Emergency Operations Center’s Command Staff created criteria to relax limitations and felt many have been achieved. The percent positive rate for new infections remained under 7 percent for four weeks, falling to 3 percent as of last week. In addition the hospital and healthcare system locally is not overwhelmed and the county has ....
